Visual Music: European and American Pioneers

An evening of short historical films that are emblematic of the visual music genre. Screening will include hand-drawn animations by Oskar Fischinger, Hans Richter’s cinematic rhythms, cosmic imagery by Jordan Belson, painterly experiments by Jules Engel, seeing-sound films by Mary Ellen Bute, and Len Lye’s direct films, made without a camera. Visual Music was curated by local filmmaker and artist Samantha Krukowski as a companion to a screening of her own work, showing on August 10th. Originally from New York and St. Louis, she currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio where she teaches design at the University of Cincinnati. Samantha Krukowski will introduce the program. Films are from the archive of Center for Visual Music, Los Angeles - FREE with a suggested donation of $5
